Features
Garlic is a strong aromatic bulb which consists of several segments. This perennial plant is used widely in cooking and has a long list of medicinal uses. Grey-green leaves reach 60cm tall and produces white flowers during summer.
Growing Methods
Cloves should be planted by pushing them 1-2cm into well dug over soil during mid-autumn or early spring. Apply plant food at planting and water well, reduce watering as the weather warms up.
Aphids may appear on leaves and flowers but are easily removed by hand. Bad drainage may cause the bulbs to rot.
Harvesting
Harvest bulbs in autumn or summer once the leaves have yellowed. Wash the bulbs clean and place them in the sun for a few days to dry. Store garlic in a dry, airy place and use as needed, garlic does not freeze well.
Uses
Garlic has many culinary uses and is used in most cuisines. Garlic has antibiotic and antiseptic properties useful in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. Garlic is also known to reduce susceptibility to colds and helps improve the digestive system.
